DIMAPUR, JUL 28 (NPN): The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has handed over the investigation into the July 13 explosion at Khopanala in Chümoukedima village to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), citing the gravity of the offence and its national security implications.
According to Nagaland police PRO, the state government was informed through an MHA communication dated July 27 that the investigation of the case registered at Chümoukedima Police Station has been entrusted to the NIA.
MHA observed that a scheduled offence under the National Investigation Agency Act, 2008 had been committed in the case and, in exercise of powers under Sections 6(5) and 8 of the Act, directed the NIA to take over the investigation.
The Centre stated that the decision was taken considering the seriousness of the offence and its implications for national security.
The state government and police will coordinate with the NIA to complete the formal handover of the investigation in accordance with the provisions of law.
