NIA to Lead Probe into West Bengal Crude Bomb Discovery

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has officially taken over the investigation concerning the alarming recovery of 79 crude bombs in West Bengal. This action comes as the state prepares for its assembly polls, with the final phase scheduled for April 29, 2026.

On April 25, 2026, the Kolkata Police confiscated these crude bombs during an operation in the Bhangar division of the city. The materials were found stored at a location that posed a significant risk to public safety. As a result, FIR no. 62/2026 was filed by the Uttar Kashi Police, prompting the NIA to register the case under RC-25/2026/nia/dli on April 26, 2026.

The NIA’s inquiry will delve into the circumstances surrounding the storage of these explosive materials. Officials have indicated that the key objectives include determining the individuals responsible for the stockpiling and assessing any potential larger conspiracies behind this incident. Additionally, the agency is also looking into another recent case involving a bomb explosion in West Bengal, indicating their commitment to addressing such serious security challenges in the region.
