Niki-led NSCN (K) accuses security forces of ‘unauthorised raids and illegal detention’

Niki Sumi-led NSCN (K) has sharply reacted to the alleged conduct of “unauthorized raids and illegal detention” of its members by Indian security forces, which it claimed was “repeatedly threatening the Naga people’s desire for peace”.

The group through its MIP questioned whether “such illegalities are being done under the directive of the GoI” or whether the “GoI lost control of its security forces”. MIP alleged that security forces were “acting independently of all Indian government institutions”. It also said that field commanders were “acting more like warlords rather than a respectable and disciplined force of a civilized nation.”

MIP said peace that has been earnestly sought by all sections of Naga society was being “slowly eroded and shred to pieces by the security forces”. The group cautioned that its commitment to peace and tolerance “should not be misconstrued as a sign of docility.”

According to MIP, the security forces have made “unauthorized arrest” of its members during the past few months including 20 in Dimapur, eight in Kohima, seven in Peren, six in Phek, six in Tuensang, two in Mon and one in Zunheboto.

Further, MIP accused the security forces of violating the sanctity of the CFSB office, approved by Ministry of Home Affairs, on many occasions. It said that “physical torture and detention of CFSB members cannot be left unmentioned.”

While conveying its “unwavering commitment to peace”, the group, however, cautioned that in the event of any untoward incident, which hampered the peace process, the responsibility would “solely lie with GoI.”

Reacts to report: Reacting to news items “security forces nab 4 cadres of Nikki group in Kohima” published in local dailies on August 5, Niki-led NSCN (K) clarified that arrested individuals were not on “official duty”.

In a clarification, MIP clarified that the four arrested members of the group were not “in the duty officially assigned by the higher authority at the time of their arrest and the circumstances that led to their arrest”.

MIP said the four members “forged the signature of high ranking military official of the NSCN/GPRN and had utilised the same for their selfish motive”.

MIP further said the group had “nothing to do with the arrest of the 4 accused and do not own moral responsibility of the activities they were involved in”.

Meanwhile, MIP has also clarified that ‘brig’ Kisheto Aye, at no point in time, had issued any hand written demand letter on GPRN official pad to M/s Peseyie construction, Kohima.
