NIMSR set to be healthcare hub, says Governor

KOHIMA, JUN 18 (NPN): Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav on Thursday visited the Nagaland Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (NIMSR), Kohima, and reviewed the progress of the state’s first medical college while interacting with faculty members, staff, students and other stakeholders.
Addressing a programme at the institute, Yadav described NIMSR as a landmark institution in Nagaland’s healthcare and educational landscape, reflecting the state’s aspirations to strengthen medical education, healthcare delivery and research.
Expressing satisfaction over the institute’s progress since the launch of its MBBS programme in 2023, the governor noted that NIMSR had developed modern academic infrastructure, including smart lecture theatres, a central library and advanced skill and communication laboratories.
He also highlighted the institution’s growing research activities through multiple extramural projects.
Yadav commended initiatives such as the Family Adoption Programme, community health outreach activities and the mentor-mentee system, saying they reflected the institute’s commitment to producing skilled and compassionate healthcare professionals.
The governor also appreciated efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure, including the proposed operationalisation of the NIMSR Hospital and plans for a 400-bed tertiary care centre. He said these developments would significantly enhance the state’s capacity for patient care, medical teaching and research.
Highlighting innovative initiatives undertaken by the institution, Yadav praised the establishment of an Indigenous Herbal Garden and the promotion of innovation through artificial intelligence and digital technologies. He also appreciated NIMSR’s vision of extending healthcare services to remote communities across the state.
Reviewing the institution’s overall progress, the governor urged all stakeholders to continue working with dedication, professionalism and a spirit of service. He said institutions such as NIMSR would play a crucial role in shaping the future of healthcare in Nagaland. He expressed confidence that the institute would emerge as a centre of excellence in medical education, research and patient care.
Yadav conveyed his best wishes to the management, faculty, staff and students for the institute’s continued growth and success.
Earlier, a symposium was conducted by MBBS students as part of the programme.
