The Nagaland Indigenous People’s Forum (NIPF) has expressed shock and surprise at the appointment of a non-indigenous person as GB. In a statement, the forum termed this as a serious issue that could not be taken lightly as it could have a negative effect on the indigenous people of Nagaland in future.
Hence, it urged the state government to pull up its sleeves and activate its mechanism to check if such an appointment had been made in the past or be prepared to prevent such appointments in the future.
The forum stressed that it was high time to wake up from deep slumber and look at the pitiable conditions of some of the other North-eastern states where non-indigenous people had taken over or were taking over the indigenous people in all the governing set-ups and had turned the indigenous people to a minority in their own state.
The forum demanded initiating strict action, even termination of any government official if found responsible for illegal appointment of any non-indigenous person in any government office or institution in Nagaland.
NIPF also called upon every indigenous citizens of Nagaland to be vigilant and initiate legal steps to protect the Indigenous people of the state irrespective of tribes and communities.
