Nirmal Jain issue: DNSU serves ultimatum on govt

DIMAPUR, APR 1 (NPN):

Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has served a 30-day ultimatum on the state government to take action in the case of Nirmal Jain, who was alleged to have obtained an Indigenous Certificate through fraudulent means.
In an ultimatum addressed to the home commissioner through the deputy commissioner (DC) Dimapur, DNSU president Hinoto P. Aomi and general secretary Michael Kath stated that the union had exercised utmost patience but could no longer wait indefinitely for the government to act.
Recalling the sequence of events, DNSU said it had first submitted a formal representation to the DC Dimapur on June 26, 2025, along with supporting documents highlighting the alleged irregularities in the procurement of the Indigenous Certificate. Following this, the office of the DC Dimapur constituted an internal inquiry committee, which then submitted its findings to the commissioner, Nagaland on September 16, 2025.
On January 21, 2026, the union said both DNSU and Nirmal Jain were summoned by the Commissioner, Nagaland, for a hearing in Kohima.
Dimapur Naga Students’ Union said it also submitted another representation on February 20, 2026, requesting the public disclosure of the inquiry report in the interest of transparency.
Subsequently, on March 6, 2026, the union said it was informed through DC Dimapur that the matter had been forwarded to the Home Department for examination and necessary action. However, despite the passage of several months, DNSU said it has received no concrete action or official communication till date.
Therefore, DNSU said it was compelled to serve 30-day ultimatum demanding decisive and appropriate action based on the findings of the inquiry committee; publicly disclose the investigation report and ensure that justice was delivered in a fair and time-bound manner.
The union warned that if the government failed to act within the stipulated period, it would be forced to initiate its own course of democratic agitation, for which the government would be held solely responsible.
DNSU said ultimatum was issued in the larger interest of justice, transparency, and safeguarding the rights and identity of indigenous people
