DIMAPUR:

Director National Institute for Rubber Training (NIRT), Rubber Board of India, Kottayam, Kerala, Priya Varma visited the Land Resources Department (LRD) Resource Centre at Ruzaphema in Chümoukedima on March 10.
During the visit, Varma, along with officials from the Rubber Board, LRD and rubber growers from the state, held a meeting at the centre to discuss strengthening rubber development initiatives.
According to a press release, the department, in partnership with Rubber Board, is set to implement a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for imparting training and skill development in the rubber sector. As part of the initiative, a nodal centre of NIRT will be established at the resource centre by utilising existing facilities to help bridge gaps in rubber development and production in the state.
The department stated that it has developed over 20,000 hectares of rubber plantations in the state and, with support from NIRT and the Rubber Board, aims to enhance productivity and quality through technical training, skill development and capacity building for stakeholders.
It further informed that extension support, including installation of Dry Rubber Content (DRC) testing and training equipment, as well as initiatives for value addition in rubber products, are also in the pipeline.
The department said the partnership aligns with the vision of achieving the three “E’s”– ecology, employment and economy.
