Nitish files RS nomination, set to end record CM tenure

PATNA, MAR 5 (PTI)

JD (U) chief Nitish Kumar on Thursday filed nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha elections, signalling a major shift in Bihar politics and potentially bringing to a close his long tenure as the state’s longest-serving chief minister. The development could pave the way for a new government in the state, likely to be led by the BJP.
Kumar, who turned 75 last week, has headed the Bihar government a record 10 times since 2005, despite his party never securing a majority in the Assembly.
He announced his decision to return to Parliament through a post on X, triggering protests by some JD(U) workers who alleged a BJP “conspiracy” to sideline their leader. Expressing gratitude to the people of Bihar, Kumar said their trust over the past two decades had enabled the state to pursue development and progress.
