DIMAPUR, NOV 5 (NPN): Nitsuyan emerged as champions of the 31st Lt. Nyamo Lotha and Lt. Daniel Lotha Football Running Trophy 2026, organised by the Dimapur Lotha Students’ Union (DLSU), after defeating Burma Camp 2-0 in the grand finale held at the Multi-Disciplinary Sports Complex, Dimapur on Thursday.
Nitsuyan put up an impressive performance in the title clash, scoring twice without conceding a goal to lift the coveted trophy, while Burma Camp finished as runners-up.
The five-day tournament, which commenced on October 29 at the Dimapur State Stadium Multi-Disciplinary Sports Complex, witnessed the participation of 11 teams under the theme, “Inspiring the Future, Remembering the Past.” The tournament honoured the legacy of Lt. Nyamo Lotha and Lt. Daniel Lotha while providing a platform for young footballers to showcase their talent and promoting sportsmanship, unity and fellowship.
Speaking at the closing ceremony as special guest, BJYM Nagaland state president and DMC councillor V. Khekato Awomi encouraged youth to take initiative, create opportunities and become agents of change. He appreciated the sponsoring families and DLSU for promoting sports and bringing people together through football.
Describing football as more than a game, Awomi said it instils teamwork, discipline and respect, emphasising that success comes through collective effort rather than individual talent.
He urged players to give their best, learn from mistakes and focus on continuous improvement, stating that learning and moving forward were as important as winning.
Addressing the youth, he said the present generation were not only future leaders but also change-makers of today. He encouraged them to turn ideas into action, take responsibility and stand up for their beliefs with courage.
He urged young people to be remembered not as those who waited for change, but as those who made it happen.
