The District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) of Niuland held its meeting on April 7, at the DC’s Conference Hall, Nuiland under the chairmanship of minister for PHED and Cooperation, Jacob Zhimomi, to review developmental progress, discuss key issues and outline priorities for the district.
According to DIPR report, Minister for PHED and Cooperation, Jacob Zhimomi lauded Deputy Commissioner Sara S. Jamir for her dedicated service. Highlighting future priorities, he stressed that the upcoming census exercise would play a crucial role in the district’s development planning. He urged the district administration to convene meetings with gaon buras and Village Councils prior to the commencement of the operation to ensure awareness and proper participation of the public and further emphasized the importance of Aadhaar enrolment and accurate data collection, stating that proper documentation and population records are essential for securing developmental benefits.
He also noted on improving administrative infrastructure in the district. The need to establish offices for key departments such as agriculture, horticulture, veterinary, and urban development was highlighted. Additionally, the issue of staff shortages and the requirement for new posts were raised for consideration. He noted issues concerning inter-state coordination, particularly in areas bordering Assam, were also deliberated where certain border areas have maintained smooth relations, allowing development works to proceed without major disruptions and new outposts of security forces to be placed within the district.
In his concluding remarks, he called for continued coordination among departments and urged officials to maintain transparency and efficiency in implementing development projects. He emphasized that while policies and resources are provided at higher levels, it is the responsibility of officers at the district level to ensure effective execution.
In her remarks, vice-chairman DPDB and Deputy Commissioner Niuland, Sara S. Jamir, thanked the departments, minister and officials for their support. She highlighted key achievements since the district’s formation and pointed out improvements in road connectivity, better coordination in project implementation, and progress in sectors such as education and healthcare.
She appreciated the efforts of the district administration and departments for their continued dedication despite challenges such as shortage of staff, limited infrastructure and officers handling multiple responsibilities. She also emphasized the need for collective responsibility in ensuring that development initiatives reach the grassroots level effectively.
The board reviewed previous meeting minutes, including the decision to conduct field visits to schools and villages to verify the implementation of government projects after the HSLC and HSSLC examinations, and deliberated on repair works at GHS Agunaqa. It also reviewed development needs of the area and DFO/Forest Ranger, Limaangtet Jamir, gave a PowerPoint presentation on their departmental activities, highlighting conservation efforts and sustainable forest management.
The board also discussed potential initiatives such as organizing a fish festival to promote local economic opportunities and enhance livelihood prospects in the district.
The department of veterinary and animal husbandry was selected to highlight its district-level activities on the next DPDB meeting.
