Niuland GBs appeal for new Atu Ghoki bridge

DIMAPUR, MAY 25 (NPN): Niuland Tokukujo Kukami Kuqhakulu (Niuland Area GBs Association) has appealed to state chief minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio for the early construction of a new RCC bridge at Atu Ghoki.
In a representation addressed to the state chief minister, NTKK chairman VK Holo and secretary
Shikavi Zhimo stated that the existing bridge, constructed in 1991, has become extremely weak. The association pointed out that currently only one vehicle was being allowed to pass at a time. NTKK highlighted that the Atu Ghoki bridge was the only lifeline connecting Niuland district with Dimapur, Chümoukedima, Wokha, Kohima and neighbouring Assam. It said that thousands of people, including school and college students, use the bridge daily to commute to their places of work and educational institutions.
Therefore, the association has sought the chief minister’s early intervention for the construction of a new RCC bridge “before any untoward incident occurs due to the weak structure”.
