New Jalukie Peren Village Council (NJPVC) has expressed the need for flood controlling measures like construction of embankment, canal and drainage systems within its jurisdiction.
In a press note, NJPVC secretary, Tingsangai John, pointed out that due to heavy downpour on July 19, the village was flooded and and added that the flood occurs every 5 to 6 years.
The council said the landscape was such that natural calamity can cause sudden destruction to the village. It said the recent flood in the village has destroyed properties and animals.
NJPVC informed that dwelling houses were flooded and many families displaced and that paddy fields were damaged.
