The sixth session of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) was adjourned sine die by NLA speaker Sharingain Longkumer after five days of deliberations at the Assembly Secretariat, here Saturday.
In his closing remark, the speaker announced the formation of two new assembly committees — the Committee on Environmental Change and the Committee on Urban Local Bodies and Nagaland Village Councils.
The speaker stated that the two committees were formed in line with Article 371(A) to address contemporary challenges and governance needs. He expressed hope that the committees would work towards tackling key regional issues with a global perspective.
Longkumer also commended the budget for the year 2025-26, calling it one of the most holistic budgets ever presented, reflecting a vision of a “resurgent and transformed Nagaland.”
He praised the chief minister, who hols crucial finance portfolio, and council of ministers for their efforts in presenting a far-sighted and people-centric budget. Over the course of the five-day session, eight bills were passed and five subjects of vital importance were discussed under Rules 50 and 54.
The Speaker acknowledged the active participation of the members and their commitment to addressing pressing issues. He expressed gratitude to the chief secretary, government officials, police, armed and paramilitary forces, and the media for their support in ensuring the smooth conduct of the session. Longkumer also appreciated the assembly staff for their dedication and efficiency. With no unfinished business remaining, the speaker officially adjourned the sixth session of the 14th NLA sine die.
