NLA panel reviews Municipal, VC Acts

DIMAPUR: Nagaland Legislative Assembly’s (NLA) committee on Urban Local Bodies and Nagaland Village Councils on Thursday conducted a site visit to Dimapur to review the implementation of the Nagaland Municipal Act, 2023 and the Nagaland Village and Tribal Councils Act, 1978 (as amended up to 2022).
The committee, headed by advisor K. Tokugha Sukhalu, comprised advisors Imkongmar and Dr. Kekhrieilhoulie Yhome, MLAs A. Nyamnyei Konyak, Dr. Neisatuo Mero, Y. Lima Onen Chang and Ar. Jwenga Seb.
During the visit, the committee held separate interactions with Dimapur Town Gaon Buras, colony chairmen, councillors of the DMC and VDB secretaries under Dimapur Sadar.
Discussions focused on the implementation of the Nagaland Municipal Act, 2023, particularly the development of urban local bodies, civic administration, service delivery and grassroots challenges. Interactions with VDB secretaries centred on the implementation of the Nagaland Village and Tribal Councils Act, 1978, developmental activities, challenges and suggestions.
Stakeholders shared their views and recommendations on urban governance, sanitation and solid waste management, implementation of government schemes and financial resources. The committee said it had taken note of the issues and recommendations for further examination.
The committee appreciated the cooperation extended by the district administration, Gaon Buras, colony chairmen, DMC councillors and VDB secretaries.
