NLA Speaker attends Presiding Officers’ meet in Mysuru

DIMAPUR: Nagaland Legislative Assembly, speaker, Sharingain Longkumer, accompanied by the Secretary and officials, attended the first meeting of the Committee of Presiding Officers to frame the Uniform Model Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business of Legislative Bodies held in Mysuru, Karnataka, from May 11 to 13.
According to DIPR, the meeting, chaired by Uttar Pradesh Speaker Satish Mahana, featured a keynote address on the proposed uniform model rules. The committee deliberated extensively on formulating a common framework of rules across legislative bodies in the country.
Recognising the importance of a broad based consultative process, the committee resolved to seek views and suggestions from Speakers of various State Legislative Assemblies before finalising its report for submission to the Speaker of the Lok Sabha.
It was also decided that the Secretaries of Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka and Nagaland would hold a separate meeting to examine areas where uniformity of rules could be implemented.
The next meeting of the committee is scheduled to be held in New Delhi.
