Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA), Sharingain Longkumer, attended the opening ceremony of the 7th Nagaland Darts Championship, organised by the Nagaland Darts Association (NDA), and commended the Association’s efforts in promoting darts across the state.
According to a DIPR report, addressing the gathering as chief patron of the NDA, Longkumer lauded the presence and support of entrepreneurs and praised the Association’s role in fostering a sports culture in Nagaland. He expressed confidence in the NDA’s potential and urged collective efforts to advance the state through sports while preserving its indigenous identity.
Highlighting the opportunities presented by a digital and globalised world, the Speaker noted that Nagaland’s human resources have gained recognition beyond the state. He encouraged the NDA to invite players from outside Nagaland to participate in future tournaments, stating that such initiatives would enhance the sport’s visibility and provide valuable exposure for local talents.
Longkumer also underscored the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, calling on organisers to contribute to Nagaland’s development by hosting events that are environmentally sustainable and globally oriented. He acknowledged the government’s ongoing efforts to identify sporting talents across the state and stressed the importance of grooming them with values and expanding opportunities. Speaking on the sport itself, the Speaker highlighted the skill, balance and coordination required in darts, and encouraged participants to pursue it with dedication and enthusiasm.
During the event, the NDA presented a dartboard to the chief patron as a token of appreciation. NDA president David Angami outlined the Association’s achievements since its inception in 2012, including participation in national championships and international representation. He noted that NDA currently has district partners in Kohima, Dimapur and Zunheboto, and aims to expand its presence to all districts of Nagaland.
This year’s championship features 28 participants competing across various categories.
