Naga Mothers Association (NMA) has strongly condemned the rise of sexual violence against Naga women and children in the state. In a press note, NMA president Vilanuo Angela Yhome and joint secretary Vitono Haralu condemned the rape and brutal violence of a woman from Ngwalwa village, by one Benjamin Terieng on September 7 2023 night. NMA called upon the law enforcing agencies to take the severest action on the accused as per the law and no bail be granted.
NMA also condemned the recent incident of child molestation at Holy Angel’s School, Tuensang by the headmaster VJ Jose on September 19. It demanded that action be taken as per the POSCO Act on the accused and also demanded that all schools and colleges must set up the sexual harassment committee to initiate legal action on cases of harassment and sexual violence in their institutions. “Such cases being covered up by school authorities without legal action is highly questionable and allows the predator to roam freely and repeat offences on other children and young students,” NMA stated.
NMA also condemned the violence against a Naga woman in Ahmedabad, Gujarat on September 25 night by the owner identified as one Mohsin of Galaxy Spa, Sindhu Bhavan Marg.
Expressing shock over the viral video, NMA demanded severest action against the proprietor of the Spa based on the FIR filed. There can be no justification for any kind of violence, that threatens the security and life of a woman or child, NMA said. “We stand in solidarity with ZMO and rest of all the Civil societies who have come forth to voice out for justice,” NMA added.
