NMA meets governor to highlight cases of violence against women

DIMAPUR, JUN 18 (NPN): A delegation of the Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA), led by its president Vilanuo Angela Yhome, met Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav on 17 June at Lok Bhavan, Kohima.
The delegation included Vice President Sawmi Leyri, Advisor Padma Mrs. Sano Vamuzo, Advisor Abeni TCK, and Advisor Prof. Rosemary Dzüvichü. During the meeting, the NMA drew the Governor’s attention to a series of violence cases against girls and women in the state and asked for immediate intervention to ensure justice.
The association raised the sexual violence case involving a minor girl in Dimapur, where three accused have already been arrested. It said the case has caused strong public concern and needs proper investigation, justice, and rehabilitation for the victim.
The NMA also spoke about the sexual harassment cases against senior IAS officer Reny Wilfred.
It said the delay in action has caused further suffering to the victims, many of whom lost their jobs when their contract services were not renewed.
The association said this has added to the hardship of young women professionals who were already seeking justice. It also said the officer, who is facing trial in a rape case in Noklak, has continued to harass women at the workplace and has even filed a case against members of the State Women Commission.
The delegation also mentioned the Pimla murder case of a mother and the killing of young college student Vihozonuo Zao in Kohima.
It said both cases remain unresolved despite forensic findings, and police investigation has come under question.
The NMA further raised the killing of six Naga civilian hostages by armed Kuki militants in the Khonsakhul area. It urged both the Governor and the President of India to take action and ensure the arrest and punishment of those responsible.
It also referred to the death threat against one of its advisors and other Naga women who supported women’s reservation, saying the case has seen no proper closure.
The Governor assured the delegation that he would look into the cases.
