Nagaland NMA seeks probe into drone strike at Khenmoi

DIMAPUR, OCT 27 (NPN)

Strongly condemning the drone strike on civilian areas in Khenmoi Naga village across the border in Myanmar’s Naga Self Administrered Zone, the Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) has sought immediate inquiry into the incident.
In a representation submitted to the union minister for defence, Rajnath Singh, through the governor of Nagaland, NMA president Vilanuo Angela Yhome, vice president Malsawmthangi Leyri and advisors Abeni TCK and Prof. Rosemary Dzuvichu stated that “drone bombing” killed a girl student Phiphot Wangsa (7) and Khammoi Students’ Union joint secretary Khampei Wangsa (27) and left several other civilians injured. NMA said the injured civilians including women and men were presently undergoing hospitalisation in Mon district hospital, Nagaland.
NMA pointed out that the strike on unarmed civilians and children by the Indian Army was highly questionable and against all International Human Rights Conventions. The Naga mothers have, therefore, sought an inquiry into the “drone bombings” on civilians and demanded that those responsible be held accountable for such crimes against Naga people.
NMA asserted that Oting massacre of civilians in the Tiru mining area was yet to see accountability of Indian Army. Further, the association reiterated that land of Nagas cannot continue to be the ‘killing fields’ of Indian Army, adding “they must be held accountable for such crimes.” Seeking justice for the deaths of Naga children, NMA sought adequate compensation to all the injured at the hospital and the loss of civilian property and houses.
