Nagaland Medical Council raises alarm over unethical medical practices

DIMAPUR, JUL 22 (NPN)

Nagaland Medical Council (NMC), has expressed alarm over fake medical practitioners, unregistered doctors, and private practice by government doctors who avail Non-Practicing Allowance (NPA).
These were discussed at NMC’s recent executive and ethical committee meeting, wherein it (NMC) also warned of serious disciplinary action against cases of sexual misconduct and medical negligence and also urging both the government and the public to ensure accountability and ethical standards in medical care. The council reiterated that all 1480 registered allopathic medical practitioners serving or practising in the state, including those coming from outside the state for health camps/practice in clinics/hospitals, were required to be registered with the council as per the Nagaland Medical Council (NMC) Act, 2014.
NMC said the purpose of scrutiny and registration was to avoid some doctors masquerading as cardiologists, diabetologists, neurologists, etc, even though their additional qualifications were not recognised by the Medical Council of India (MCI)/NMC.
