
New Market Women Organisation (NMWO) conducted a workshop on reducing plastic usage and recycling household items on the theme, “love the waste, love your world, recycling is reinvention” at New Market (Ser) Panchayat Hall in Kohima on June 1.
A press release from NMWO stated that, Kovi Meyase, administrator, KMC, said that New Market as a colony has been able to survive on its own in many ways and the workshop was no exception. He also pointed out their human values of humility, determination and sharing was a very important example for all to learn. Meyase added that they were not only sayers but doers and it was high time for everyone to practice accordingly.
Francis R, a member from Green Team in his brief exhortation called upon the womenfolk present to reduce the use of plastic and encouraged them to learn the art of recycling the old and unused household items.
Resource persons and Green Team Kohima members Mary Rutsa and Akuonuo Solo displayed some finished products made from using empty plastic bottles, old clothes, old shawls and newspapers. They also exhibited some decorative pieces made from empty rice sacks and coffee bottles. Akuonuo also demonstrated the process of making other useful items out of old clothes and disposable plastic items.
Ruokuobeizo Nyusou, chairman of New Market Panchayat Area appreciated the good works of the resource persons and congratulated the NMWO for organising the workshop.
Earlier, Pelhouzetuo-ii Rame offered invocation prayer in the programme chaired by Swedezhono Tsukru, while vote of thanks was delivered by Ruokuoneinuo Nakhro.
