NNC cautions those passing out from non-recognised institutes

Nagaland Nursing Council (NNC) on Wednesday warned that anyone passing out from nursing institutions other than the recognised and affiliated nursing schools/institutions of Indian Nursing Council (INC) and State Nursing Council would not be eligible for registration under it and also would not get job in the State government/private hospitals/nursing homes.

In a notification, NNC registrar Dr Sentinaro Ao said only seven institutes were recognised by INC– School of Nursing Naga Hospital Authority, Kohima (GNM course); School of Nursing District Hospital Dimapur (GNM course); School of Nursing IMDH Mokokchung (GNM course); ANM School of Nursing, District Hospital, Tuensang (ANM course); School of Nursing CIHSR Dimapur (GNM course); College of Nursing CIHSR Dimapur (BSc Nursing & Post Basic BSc Nursing) and Health Nursing School Singrijan, Dimapur (ANM & GNM).

Noting that many private institutions were imparting nursing training without obtaining recognition/affiliation from INC and NNC, and many who passed out from these institutions were working as nurses in the private sector, the notification specified that it was mandatory for all private hospitals/nursing homes/clinics to employ only registered nurses who had undergone nursing courses from INC-recognised institutes.

As per Nagaland Nursing Council Act 2019, Chapter III of Section 25, the notification said NNC was empowered to inspect any hospital, health institution, nursing home, college of nursing or school of nursing to ascertain that the person working there as a nurse was registered with the council. And any person practising or allowing someone to practise as a nurse, LHV/ANM/FHW in contravention of Section 29 of Nagaland Nursing Act, 2019, would be punished with imprisonment that may extend upto two years and a fine or both (Section 30 of Nagaland Nursing Act, 2019).

The registrar declared that ahospital/school/college/female health worker training school not approved or recognised under sub-section (1) of Section 24 of the Nagaland Nursing Act, 2019 was prohibited to issue such certificate to any person.

He said NNC would be conducting an inspection of all hospitals/schools/institutions/nursing homes under private management in due course.
