NNC (Parent Body) on behalf of the Nagas, welcomed all dignitaries, foreign delegates and tourists from all around the world to Nagaland to celebrate and take part in the Hornbill festival 2023.
While wishing them a happy and memorable stay in Nagaland, NNC (PB) urged all concerned to remember the “political plight of the Nagas, the suffering and brutality endured for the last 94 years, ever since the submission of political memorandum to the British India to let the Nagas freely enjoy our freedom to govern ourselves in 1929.”
It reminded how Nagas on August 14, 1947, declared Naga independence under the banner of NNC, and on May 16, 1951 conducted a voluntary plebiscite (referendum), the result of which showed 99.9% voted in favour of Independence.
However, NNC (PB) said these political and democratic rights were and are still being allegedly suppressed by “occupiers” Government of India one side and military Junta of Burma (Myanmar) on the other side” of the divided land of the Nagas.
Therefore, NNC (PB) appealed to all concerned to speak out and help in bringing about a political settlement on this longest political plight of the Nagas, for peace and development come about in the region. Meanwhile, NNC (PB) extended Christmas & New Year greetings to all the people here in the Homeland.
