Congress has accused BJP at the Centre and the ruling coalition in the State of providing no answers to the questions it had raised regarding minorities, misgovernance, corruption and lack of development.
In a press release, All India Congress Committee (AICC) media coordinator Sujata Paul said BJP’s doublespeak on minorities was out in the open. She said the party simply stating that it had no connection with Janjati Dharm Sanskriti Suraksha Manch was not enough.
She asked why BJP had not taken any action against the organisation operating from Assam where it was in power and when the organisation was deliberately trying to polarise and create bad blood in the run-up to the election.
According to her, BJP had steered clear from giving answers on Uniform Civil Code (UCC) that it supported and had committees formed for its implementation in BJP-ruled Gujarat and Uttarakhand.
She asserted that UCC could not be implemented in Nagaland as it enjoyed a special status under Article 371 (A) and asked whether BJP intended to abrogate the Article for implementing UCC, or whether it did not consider Nagaland as part of India.
She insisted BJP must clear its stand on the issue. But, by not making its stand clear, she said the party was only showing its double face.
Reiterating her questions, the AICC media coordinator pointed out that BJP had not answered on why the high court building had not been completed till date along with a colosseum-like State Stadium at Dimapur, whose construction started in 2006.
She asked why the government medical colleges were not complete till date and why a mall constructed in forest department land with Central fund was not being used. She said this was a testament to the State government’s corruption and criminal wasteful expenditure.
Paul questioned why people faced water shortage and why there was no water supply to houses across the State, why people of Nagaland bore the brunt of power cuts and load shedding, why there were no proper roads barring the four-lane highway being built for Assam chief minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma for his travels from Assam to Nagaland and back, and why Eastern Nagaland had been ignored.
Referring to BJP’s 2018 slogan “Election for Solution”, she wanted to know why the people of Nagaland had not been given any solution even after five years.
She alleged that chief minister Neiphiu Rio’s assets were now worth Rs 46.95 crore, an increase of Rs 10.54 crore in past five years. And with allegations of corruption against him, she demanded to know why there had been no investigation by Enforcement Directorate, CBI or Income Tax.
Paul stated that BJP might stay in election mode 24X7, 365 days a year, but it was only to occupy the seat of power by hook or by crook. She mention that there was no evidence of governance or development in Nagaland.
“BJP likes to check the inside of every booth while Congress respects the Election Commission and lets them do their job. Our workers stand with the people of Nagaland so that we can solve their problems when we come to power,” the release stated.
