DEMANDS END TO ‘BACKDOOR’ INDUCTION, NEPOTISM & FAVOURITISM
Ahead of their three-day “pen down strike” scheduled from October 14-16, the Joint Co-ordination Committee (JCC) comprising of CANSSEA, FONSESA, NIDA, NSSA and NF&ASA has issued a public declaration demanding an end to favouritism, nepotism and backdoor appointments in the IAS induction process for Non-State Civil Service (Non-SCS) officers.
It may be mentioned that the state services associations have decided to launch next phase of protest (three-day pen down strike) against non-fulfilment of demands for withdrawal of non NPSC candidate from the select list of non-SCS officers for induction into the IAS.
In a statement issued through its media cell on Wednesday, the committee asserted that past irregularities must not be repeated and called upon the government to uphold meritocracy, transparency and fairness in every step of IAS induction- the most prestigious civil service in the country.
JCC maintained that the government must stand for meritocracy by inducting the most eligible officers recruited through the constitutionally mandated State Public Service Commission from the Non-SCS cadre into the premier IAS post, giving them opportunities without bias or political favour.
Questioning the inconsistency in the government’s stand, the JCC asked: “When the state government speaks for meritocracy through NPSC and NSSB, then why nepotism towards backdoor appointees for induction to the country’s most premier and prestigious IAS post?”
JCC pointed out that if the state government speaks about meritocracy in two languages, then maintaining constitutionally mandated bodies like the NPSC and NSSB holds no water. In such a case, it said the government might as well abolish these recruitment bodies altogether to avoid making a mockery in the eyes of the Naga public. JCC emphasized that thousands of competent young Nagas, recruited through NPSC and NSSB, must be given their rightful opportunities as constitutionally recognized, merit-based recruits.
The committee, therefore, called upon the government to uphold merit, transparency and justice in all appointments and promotions, reject favouritism, nepotism and backdoor appointments in any form and follow constitutional procedures and safeguard the integrity of public institutions.
JCC warned that any deviation from constitutional norms undermines public trust and demoralizes genuine officers who have entered service through fair competition. It said it was time to restore integrity, fairness and credibility in the system.
The committee appealed to all right-thinking Nagas, intellectuals and concerned individuals to come forward and support the issue in the interest of future generations. It also urged public representatives to retrospect their actions so that younger generations “will not point their fingers at you for standing on the wrong side of justice and fairness.”
Reaffirming its commitment to a just, transparent and merit-driven process in IAS induction, JCC said the process must truly reflect the spirit of the Constitution of India and the aspirations of the Naga people.
It may be recalled that the associations resolved to go on an initial three-day pen down strike to demand the following: (i) Withdrawal of non NPSC candidate from the Select List of Non SCS officers, for induction into the IAS, held on 25th September 2025. (ii) Restore the Vacancy Circular dated 10th March 2025 in toto for ensuring present and future selection into the IAS from Non SCS ensuring above all merit and transparency.
They said that pen down strike would continue along with all forms of resentment enforced earlier including black ribbon/badges and poster campaigns.
