Deputy chief minister, in-charge of Home department, on Thursday categorically stated that he would no longer entertain personal requests of legislators for transfer and posting of police personnel.
Taking part in the zero hour discussion initiated by NPF legislator Kuzholuzo Nienu, Patton urged legislators to refrain from making such personal requests, adding that he would no longer entertain them.
Responding to Azo’s query on tribal composition in the posting and transfer of police personnel, Patton said that the State had no policy as such on transfer and posting of police personnel.
He said the government had made efforts to transfer officials posted in one location for three years or more.
He said that the government was working diligently to keep these matters under control and improve the system for the past five to six years, but added that the ongoing issues were partly due to the members themselves.
Earlier, Nienu stated that the situation in Manipur should serve as a wake-up call for all, and the state government should start taking corrective measures from now itself.
He stressed that ethnic clash in Manipur over the past one year should be taken seriously, cautioning that if there was no proper tribal composition in the transfer and posting of police personnel in Nagaland, there could be a mutiny worse than Manipur. Expressing disappointment that there was no transfer and policy in the state, he requested the deputy chief minister to bring out a policy.
