No narco test on Sonam, says M’laya police

CorrespondentShillong, Jun 15

The Meghalaya Police has ruled out conducting narco-analysis test on Sonam Raghuvanshi and Raj Singh Kushwaha, both accused in the case regarding the murder of an Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi at Sohra last month.
Pointing out that narco tests are conducted when the accused refuse to divulge details, Vivek Syiem, the district police chief of East Khasi Hills on Sunday said, “The accused persons are cooperating with the ongoing investigation and we have substantial evidence against them”. Syiem also pointed out that nothing in narco analysis is admissible and narco test is banned in India.
On Saturday, the family members of Raja had demanded a narco-test on Sonam and the other accused since they are allegedly not revealing the entire truth before the police. “We are of the opinion that Sonam and the other accused are not revealing the whole truth. We are also suspecting that there are other people involved in the murder of Raja,” Sachin Raghuvanshi, the elder of Raja, said.
Meghalaya police together with their counterpart in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh have arrested earlier this week Sonam and four others – Raj Singh Kushwaha, Akash Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan and Anand Kurmi.
Sonam is the prime accused in the murder of her newly married husband Raja Raghuvanshi during their honeymoon to Sohra, a popular tourist destination in Meghalaya, with the help of her alleged lover Kushwaha and three others.
All the five accused have been brought to Shillong on a transit remand from MP and UP and are being interrogated by the police after the court here granted eight days police custody on June 11.
Asked when the five accused will be taken to the crime scene for crime reconstruction, Syiem said, the Special Investigation Team will complete their examination work on the five accused before going for reconstruction.
