NOHP hosts statewide dental review

The National Oral Health Programme (NOHP), Nagaland, under the Directorate of Health & Family Welfare, conducted a two-day State Review Meeting and Training for dental surgeons on August 27 and 28 at the IDSP Hall, Kohima.
According to DIPR report, the programme was chaired by Dr. Reyosalu Lase, Joint Director (Dental) and State Nodal Officer, NOHP, and brought together dental professionals from across the state for performance review, skill enhancement, and recognition of excellence.
Principal director of Health & Family Welfare, Dr. Mereninla Senlem, attended the event as special guest, while Mission Director of National Health Mission, Dr. Avile Zao, graced the occasion as guest of honour.
In her address, Dr. Zao lauded the dental fraternity for their dedicated service and emphasized the importance of oral hygiene, tobacco control, and preventive care. She highlighted emerging technologies in dental science such as tele-dentistry, 3D printing, laser treatments, CAD/CAM systems, and artificial intelligence, urging dental surgeons to stay abreast of advancements and utilize upgraded facilities under NHM and NOHP.
Dr. Senlem congratulated the dental community on Nagaland’s recognition as “Best Performer” in the Small States Category during World Oral Health Day 2025. She stressed the need to prioritize patient care and balance OPD duties with outreach efforts. She also noted that dental units across the state are being equipped with modern tools including dental chairs, scalers, light cure machines, X-ray systems, and RVG digital imaging setups.
Earlier, the programme began with a welcome address by Dr. Arenla Walling, additional director (Dental). Presentations were made by 37 health units, moderated by senior dental surgeons.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. I. Simon Sumi, Deputy Director (Dental) and State Nodal Officer, NTCP.
Awards were presented to outstanding contributors: Best Dental Health Unit – Naga Hospital Authority Kohima; Best Dental Surgeon – Dr. Esther Chopy (DH Mon); Best Dental Hygienist – Dr. Lemshikala Longkumer (DH Longleng); and Best Dental Assistant – Mengusenuo Sachü (DH Dimapur). The programme aimed to strengthen dental services across Nagaland through review, training, and collaborative learning.
