NPF (Central) office Kohima through its press bureau has rubbished the allegations made by NPF (Noke) that chief minister T.R. Zeliang was indulging in horse trading and advised the “Noke, Kaito and N. Rio group, to stop fooling the Naga masses”. It accused Noke group of trying to “gain cheap political support” after the “claimed Cock symbol failed to crow” but turned chicken at the Feb 5 floor test and spewing of hatred and political venom in the media.
The bureau hit out that despite spending crore of rupees on “cheap gimmick propaganda in the media for more than a month”, the people witnessed the “dissidents’ spineless” stand during the floor test. It said after the floor test, the dissident group was placed in a “hopeless situation” and attempted to cover up with “twisting lies to fool their visionless paid supporters”.
The press bureau said NPF (Central) had submitted documents to the Election Commission of India (ECI) “at the appointed time” but this perplexed the “dissident group” which then accused Dr. Shürhozelie “of being reluctant to submit the report”.
The bureau said it took pity on Noke for being “used and forced to sign a press drafted by dubious characters, using his high stature for their selfish political mileage”. Despite this, the bureau said it had restrained itself out of respect for legislators who were forcibly confined and also considering their political career. The bureau also said NPF (Central) welcomed the “late comers” who could free themselves from “Rio-Kaito’s political bondage” to join the “mainstream” and dismissed accusations that those who fled were kidnapped with the involvement of anti-social elements.
The bureau said it was understandable that owing to their own failures, the Noke group exposed themselves in levelling charges against DAN leader T.R. Zeliang of using money to lure legislators, horse-trading and involving armed anti-social elements.
It pointed out that all 59 MLAs on February 5 voted for Zeliang to create a record where the NPF dissident MLAs also accepted the leadership of Dr. Shürhozelie and the party whip, so asked how could the dissident group accuse Zeliang of heading a minority government? In this regard, the bureau asked whether it also meant that the dissident group voted for T.R. Zeliang after receiving payment and if so, how much did each of them receive?
The bureau also said elected representatives should maintain their “self-esteem” and also act as parliamentarians. It also advised the dissidents not to politicise the Tuensang situation for “cheap mileage” while reiterating the NPF party’s commitment to peace and all-round development and backing the party government’s effort to leave no stone unturned to diffuse the volatile situation in Tuensang.
