The North Eastern Space Application Centre Umiana Meghalaya reported last year 2025 total of 374 landslides in NE states with 63 casualties.
This year just at the beginning of the Monsoon season 8 person lives gone and 12 injured in landslides in Nagaland alone. In some other North East States incidents might be more. Grateful to the Union and State Govt. for being taking rescue, relief and rehabilitation works in time.
As per Indian Govt. programmes, highly speed corridor roads are going to be constructed in the NE-states to facilitate the NE- Indian people.
Hence more landslides are perceived to be occurred in the NE- State.
It is therefore necessary to know why, how landslides occurred in advance empirically in conservative manner not neglecting scientific researches.
Many researches might have been going on to mitigate the formidable landslides in India and the world as well.
However so far no concrete solution has been propounded Landslides are occurring only because of maximum raining water.
And so, it is felt the most to find and what can absorb incessant rain water during this monsoon season time.
Through regular observation and experiences, the writer has identified some trees which absorb water maximum such as Oak, hillock, Dubanga Grandi, sparrow-beak etc.
In Nagaland context, Oak -Tree is the best as it is available throughout Nagaland. It is a diehard and having maximum root-hairs which enable to absorb maximum water.
If proper care of moulding, nurturing is taken within 5-7 years time, formidable landslides incidents would be totally stopped for life time, Instances can be seen through Billy Graham Road Kohima on both sides of the road.
