Northeast Games 2024: Host Nagaland maintains dominance

Following an intense day of competition, host Nagaland has once again secured the top spot in the medal tally at the 3rd North East Games 2024. Nagaland’s athletes showcased outstanding performances, accumulating a total of 72 medal comprising 31 gold, 17 silver, and 24 bronze medals. Manipur, which led in the previous tally, slipped to the second spot with a total of 69 medals, comprising 29 gold, 18 silver, and 22 bronze.

Nagaland women Sepaktakraw team won gold medal in the Regu event at the 3rd NE games held at Niathu Resort. State Election Commissioner TJ Longkumer, IPS (Retd), Commissioner of Police Dimapur K Sophie and Nagaland Olympic asst. secretary general Neivikuolie Khatsu gave away the medals to the winners and the runners-up on Thursday.
Nagaland (Blue) and Meghalaya (Green) draw 2-2.


Meanwhile, Assam is in the third place with a total of 78 medals, consisting of 21 gold, 30 silver, and 27 bronze. Meanwhile, the men’s team has made it to the finals of 3 weight categories and the women team in 8 weight categories. A total of 133 boxers are competing in the event comprising 73 males and 60 females with 10 categories for women and 11 categories for women.


As the competition progresses and games near their conclusion, spectators are on the edge of their seats, witnessing a thrilling battle for the top spot.

Nagaland football team managed to salvage a draw against Meghalaya 2-2 in the last league match to top the table of Group A of the ongoing football event for Northeast Games 2024 here at Chumoukedima on Thursday. A draw is enough for Nagaland to top the table of Group A with 7 points (two win and a draw). While Meghalaya with the draw have ended their saga in the tournament.

In the semifinal round, Nagaland will play against Manipur Friday at 11 am, while Mizoram will play against Arunachal Pradesh in the second semifinal match at 2 pm.
