LONDON, JUL 11 (agencies): Linda Noskova held off a furious rally to defeat Karolina Muchova 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 and win the Ladies’ Final at Wimbledon for the first singles Grand Slam title of her career.
Noskova is the third Czech woman in four years to hoist the trophy at the All-England Club, after Marketa Vondrousova in 2023 and Barbora Krejcikova in 2024.
Muchova fought off five championship points in the second set to force a third, but was unable to fight off No. 6, and Noskova closed it out for the biggest win of her career.
The ninth-seeded Noskova came flying out of the gates to take control of the match early. After the pair traded holds to open the final, she earned the first break of the match on Muchova’s second service game and then broke the 29-year-old again to close out a dominant first set.
Muchova struggled on serve in the opening set, winning just 57 per cent of her first-serve points while facing seven break points. Noskova has no such trouble on serve as she converted 92 per cent (12-of-13) of her first-serve points.
Noskova took control of the second set with another break, her third of the match, to earn a 4-2 lead.
After a quick hold at love on her next service game, the 21-year-old was unable to convert on three break and Championship Points to finish the job. Muchova would continue her climb back into the match, breaking Noskova for the first time in the match while fending off her fourth Championship point to stay alive at 5-4.
Muchova fought off another Championship Point on serve to grab all the momentum and evened things at 5-5. She then earned her second-straight break, giving herself a chance to serve for the second set. Muchova would make no mistake, as the match would head to a third-and-final set.
Muchova blinked first in the final set, committing a pair of unforced errors in her first service game to hand a key break and momentum to Noskova.
This time, Noskova would make no mistake with a chance to finish the match, closing it out on serve to seal the victory.
