Novo from Assam wins ‘Ticket to Hornbill’ Band Battle 2025

The grand finale of “Ticket to Hornbill – India’s Biggest Band Battle 2025” concluded with a spectacular showcase of musical talent at RCEMPA, Jotsoma, on October 18. After several days of intense competition, Novo from Assam emerged as the winner, impressing both judges and audiences with their electrifying performance.
Juxtaposed from Bengaluru secured the 1st Runner-Up position, while Akhanda from Sikkim was named 2nd Runner-Up. All three bands delivered powerhouse sets that highlighted the vibrancy and diversity of India’s independent music scene.
The top prize of Rs. 20 lakh was awarded to Novo, with Rs. 10 lakh and Rs. 5 lakh going to the first and second runners-up respectively. In addition to the cash prizes, the three winning bands earned the opportunity to perform at the prestigious 26th edition of the Hornbill Music Festival, scheduled for December 2025.
The event also recognized individual excellence in musicianship with special awards:
Best Keyboardist: Akhanda (Sikkim)
Best Drummer: Novo (Assam)
Best Bassist: Juxtaposed (Bengaluru)
Best Guitarist: Akhanda (Sikkim)
Best Vocalist: Stereo Groove (Nagaland)
Leading music brands presented Choice Awards to outstanding performers:
Sennheizer Choice Award: Thunder’s Cave (Meghalaya)
Ibanez Choice Awards: SoHumble (Delhi) and Mood Station (Mizoram)
The competition was hosted by the Task Force for Music & Arts (TaFMA), Government of Nagaland, and presented by Bhikharam Chandmal-North East. The initiative reinforced TaFMA’s vision of positioning Nagaland as a dynamic hub for music and creative arts in India.
Judges for the grand finale included Mrinmoyee Goswami, Booma, Obed Kath and Subir Malik. The live audition panel featured Wati Imchen, Akhito Kinimi, Mhademo Ennio and Obed Kath.
“Ticket to Hornbill” 2025 celebrated not only musical excellence but also the spirit of collaboration and cultural expression, setting the stage for a memorable Hornbill Music Festival ahead.
