
A Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) delegation comprising of PCC, DCC and frontal officials headed by president K. Therie and working presidents Khriedi Theünuo, ET Ezung and Bobby Panicker, attended the North East Congress Coordination Committee Meeting (NECCC), hosted by Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) in Guwahati on February 26.
A press release from NPCC working president, Khriedi Theünuo stated that AICC president Rahul Gandhi exhorted party delegates from different North Eastern states to remain firm on party policies and programs re-strengthening the party at all levels.
During the meeting, serious concerns were expressed regarding the prevailing political situation in the region, especially with regard to the Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016 and protection of indigenous people of the region.
Other pertinent and sensitive issues of the region for the forthcoming general elections such as deprivation of the NE region, lack of industrial growth, special category status and migration were also deliberated.
During the core committee meeting, an expert committee of the party was directed to study the Forest Rights Act and implications of the Supreme Court on the NE region.
