Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has extended New Year greetings to all and wished that Nagas in the new year be led with love, hope and grace. While thanking Almighty God for the year 2023, NPCC president S Supongmeren Jamir said that it was a tumultuous year with the state elections and neighboring ethnic violence, beside many other positive outcomes for the State.
He said the range of developments across all fronts in 2023 has led to a fond remembrance of the forefather’s time, where despite the practice of headhunting, principles of honesty, integrity and friendship were upheld in the community.
“To invoke the joy of the simpler times when such principles derived value-led choices, is not in any way a means to morally subjugate anyone in particular. Rather, would it not be wonderful to live our lives in such a time where doing “good” is not a privilege but an inherent value embedded in our Naga culture?” Supongmeren said.
He noted that the Naga culture of hospitality and kindness had gone beyond borders and have found its narrative rightfully so. Who is a Naga? What does being a Naga mean? What is Naga culture? were all valid and important questions to be addressed, he added.
“Today, this opportunity is taken to highlight that we are all humans first and foremost with an agency to make choices, especially when it comes to fostering unity, love and respect for fellow humans,” he said.
NPCC president wished that 2024 be a year of resolution, invoke the past to fuse cherished values into the present and the grace to accept shortcomings and work towards it fervently by respecting one another and lead one’s choices responsibly.
He also said that governments may come and go, but the development of the community should never be compromised with, adding that “Our choices today will shape the generations to come.” Supongmeren called upon all to pray for the wise leadership of the law makers and enforcers, administrators and the Naga national workers.
