NPCC for long-term solution on NH-29

DIMAPUR, SEP 15 (NPN)

Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has expressed deep concern over the frequent blockages along the Dimapur-Kohima stretch of NH-29, stating that such disruptions caused immense hardship to the public, obstructed the movement of goods and people, and posed serious safety risks.
In a statement, NPCC informed that its president and Lok Sabha MP, S. Supongmeren Jamir, who is presently in Brazil attending an official programme, held a telephonic conversation with R.P. Singh, executive director of National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), to raise the issue.
The party said that a team of Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee functionaries also attempted to visit the affected site to monitor the clearance progress. However, access was denied due to safety concerns.
The team, it added, nevertheless engaged in discussions with NHIDCL officials on the sidelines of the affected area.
According to NPCC, NHIDCL officials assured that the road would be reopened by evening, informing that mechanical clearance of the landslide debris had been completed and that the final safety inspection and formal opening were pending approval from the district administration.
Stating that the highway has since been reopened, NPCC acknowledged the prompt efforts of both the district administration and NHIDCL in addressing the crisis. At the same time, it strongly urged that long-term corrective measures be implemented to prevent recurring disruptions and ensure uninterrupted connectivity for the people.
