Reacting to the BJP state unit’s rejoinder to the statement of Congress leader KV Pusa, Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) Friday said the former NPCC president was expressing his concern for the plight of religious minorities who have been subjected to intense harassment in many parts of the country and were being forced to convert by fringe elements of a particular religion backed by RSS with the BJP government remaining a mute spectator.
NPCC media cell Friday said it was “appalling” to note the statement of the state BJP leaders and said the rejoinder had “no substance and was uncalled for” especially at this juncture when religious discrimination was at its peak.
By telling Pusa not to meddle in the national issues of forced religious conversion, the state BJP leaders have exposed their “narrow mindset” unable to understand the repercussions of such issue which was a political tinderbox, said NPCC media cell.
NPCC said the state BJP leaders should understand that Nagaland being a Christian majority state could not be insulated from this religious upheaval being created by communal forces and would be affected in way or the other if the present trend of religious discrimination continued.
When “communal temperatures” were being heated up across the country by RSS and fringe elements to target the religious minorities, more particularly the Christians through a series of so called “Ghar Wapsi” programmes, BJP government had gone ahead to declare Christmas day as “good governance day” and make it a “working day” thereby belittling the significance of the day of the Christians across the world, said NPCC.
Pointing out that it has become routine affairs for BJP ministers and MPs in and outside the Parliament had issued “inflammatory and communally inciting speeches,” NPCC said Prime Minister Modi and the BJP have managed to pull off the biggest political “con act” of the country since independence.
The promises of economic development, recovery of black money and good governance have all receded into the background and the real hidden agenda of heating up communal temperatures to incite hatred against the religious minorities has dominated headlines for the past seven months, said NPCC.
NPCC also said BJP pitching for anti conversion bill in Parliament was nothing but “a ploy” to further create religious divide and hatred. When RSS, VHP and other extremists have gone on record to state that conversion to Hinduism was a “Ghar Wapsi” (homecoming) and not “conversion” since they believe in the illusion that all Indians were originally Hindus, the sinister agenda behind the proposed bill was to target other religious minorities.
NPCC also it was high time for citizens and organizations to reject BJP who were ready to abandon their own upbringing and beliefs for the sake of sharing the spoils of power.
