Along with rest of the Congress party workers, Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) on Monday held a ‘Satyagraha’ here against the Centre’s Agnipath scheme and questioning of Rahul Gandhi by the Enforcement Directorate.
The rally started from Congress Bhavan to Holy Cross Higher Secondary School and back to Congress Bhavan.
Addressing the media at Congress Bhavan before the rally, NPCC president K Therie alleged that the Centre planned to employ youth for four years in the army and later throw them out with about Rs 10-12 lakh to lead rest of their lives.
Stressing that Indians needed permanent and secured of jobs, pension security, life security, etc, he feared that many youth would lose their education, pension and future through this scheme.
Mocking the government’s claims that these youth would be re-employed, he said they would be employed in BJP offices as chowkidars, gate keepers, etc, adding that it depicted the party’s lackadaisical attitude towards the welfare of citizens.
Therie also termed Enforcement Directorate’s (ED’s) “excessive questioning” of Rahul Gandhi for fourth day as “inhuman”, likening it to torturing a person without any valid reasons.
Maintaining that National Herald (NH) was a private entity without involving any coin of the government, he claimed that question of money laundering or transferring did not arise.
He also questioned why ED was not going against Ambani or Adani, adding that the same corporate laws should apply to everyone. “Why is ED targeting only Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi,” he asked.
The NPCC president alleged that ED was harassing Rahul under the directive of Modi to divert public attention from other issues, including Prophet Muhammad’s criticism.
He declared that NPCC would continue to stage protest and rallies if the Centre persisted with Agnipath scheme and mercilessly question Rahul and Sonia Gandhi through ED.
He alleged that economic decisions were taken by the Centre only to ensure profit of Adani and Ambani groups, and not for the welfare of people. He also accused the BJP-led NDA government of taking decisions at the behest of RSS only for the benefit of a particular community, disregarding the aspirations of other communities.
