Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) staged “Maun Satyagraha” (Silent Protest) outside Congress Bhavan, Dimapur on Wednesday against the disqualification of party leader Rahul Gandhi from the Parliament.
NPCC through its communications department stated that the protest was organised by Dimapur District Congress Committee in solidarity with Rahul Gandhi and to support his “fearless and uncompromising fight”.
Congress workers on Wednesday participated in a nationwide ‘maun satyagraha’ to protest Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification from Parliament. The former Congress chief was disqualified from Lok Sabha on March 24 after a Surat court convicted him in a 2019 defamation case over his “Modi surname” remarks. He represented Kerala’s Wayanad in the Lower House of Parliament. The party had on Friday said it will move the Supreme Court after the Gujarat High Court refused to stay Gandhi’s conviction.
AICC general secretary KC Venugopal had recently stated that Gandhi has been the strongest and most vocal opponent of the Modi-led BJP government. “Rahul Gandhi is not just a politician, he is a people’s leader. No force can silence him or the Congress,” Venugopal said.
