NPCC urges state to take up calamity with Centre

Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) president K. Therie has said that the state government should give due importance to the havoc caused by natural calamities in Nagaland during the current year, which affected even Kohima and other parts of the state.
In a statement, Therie said NH 29 has been completely affected with the worst hit areas being from Zubza to Phesama.
He urged the state government to take up the matter with the government of India to ensure that losses suffered were compensated and damaged roads restored at the earliest.
Taking a dig, Therie said if the NPF-led DAN government had any problem in getting fund, it should withdraw support to the BJP government.
Therie said after winding up of the Planning Commission, the state’s autonomous power to make decision had been removed and it was reduced to a salary government and not a development government, without funds to make its own plans.
He said the government of India need to understand that roads in Nagaland had to be constructed every year owing to heavy rains and unstable soil as part of the Himalayan foothill, the youngest mountain ranges in the world.
The NPCC president said Borer Roads Organization on its part, should have known about the soil condition that was crucial for building durable roads.
