DIMAPUR: Advisor for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, Zhaleo Rio, inaugurated the newly established office of the Naga People’s Front (NPF) 5 Ghaspani II Assembly Constituency at City Centre, Medziphema Town on Tuesday.
The programme was attended by members of the NPF Central Office Bearers (COB), office bearers of NPF Chümoukedima division, and party workers from the constituency.
Addressing the gathering as special guest, Zhaleo lauded the leadership of NPF 5 Ghaspani II A/C president, Thepfuselie Makritsu, for establishing a well equipped and dignified party office to facilitate smooth and effective functioning of the organisation.
He rejected claims by certain political parties that regional parties lack a clear agenda, terming such assertions misleading and politically motivated. He asserted that the NPF was not merely a political organisation but an institution safeguarding the aspirations of the Naga people.
Zhaleo reaffirmed the party’s commitment to protecting the unique identity, culture, customs, traditions and history of the Nagas, while safeguarding constitutional provisions under Article 371(A). He also reiterated the party’s stand for an honourable and inclusive resolution of the Indo Naga political issue.
Highlighting the ongoing Population Census 2027 and Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Zhaleo urged party workers and the public to register at their actual places of residence instead of reverting to native villages.
He emphasised that accurate enumeration and enrolment were essential for genuine representation and protection of democratic rights. He further encouraged party functionaries to disseminate information on government initiatives, particularly in rural areas, so that people remain informed and avail welfare schemes.
Welcoming the merger of the Rising People’s Party (RPP) with the NPF, Zhaleo described it as a significant step towards strengthening regional unity.
He expressed confidence that the merger would consolidate the regional political movement and enhance collective efforts towards peace, unity and prosperity. Concluding his address, he congratulated Chief Minister and NPF president, Dr. Neiphiu Rio, for his dynamic leadership in strengthening regional politics.
The newly inaugurated office was dedicated and blessed by Rev. Viheshe Zhimomi. Earlier, the programme was chaired by Thepfuselie Makritsu, while the welcome address was delivered by Semato Zhimo, general secretary (administration).
Short speeches were delivered by Neikhriehu Kense, president NPF Chümoukedima Division; R. Ajila Yimkhiung, president Women’s Wing; and Khehovi Yepthomi, advisor NPF 5 Ghaspani II A/C.
