NPF accuses NDPP of misquoting LoP

Naga People’s Front (NPF) has expressed surprised over the NDPP’s July 16, 2020 press statement, in which the Leader of Opposition (LoP) TR Zeliang was “mischievously quoted”.

NPF through its press bureau stated that what the LOP actually meant and intended was that the Speaker had done fairly as far as the procedural aspect of the trial was concerned, but the NDPP “twisted to their advantage which is always their habit.”

NPF, on behalf of the LoP, has, therefore, sought to bring on record the context in which LoP made his statement.

According NPF, the LoP said that the proceeding of the case was done in the right manner, but never said that justice was delivered by the Speaker.

It said LoP also wanted to convey that for the first time in the history of the NLA, the Speaker has followed the due process of law with respect to conducting the trial of the disqualification case in which the Speaker gave both the parties fair chance of hearing and examination of witnesses.

However, NPF said that whether conducting a trail by following procedure and the decision recorded in contrary to the facts and law was to be looked into for ready reference.

Maintaining that the records of the case spoke volumes, NPF said it was now a matter of record that MLAs, who were facing disqualification, refused to say under which party ticket they contested the election, refused to identify their photo published in the newspaper, refused that they have not replied to the show cause notice served by the party, but the records speak contra.

The opposition party has, therefore, questioned whether the Speaker rightly appreciated the facts, evidences in consonance with the settled process of law while recording the Judgement, was a matter that would be looked by the Court at the relevant time.

Meanwhile, the NPF alleged that NDPP had the habit of branding NPF and Congress alliance in the state whenever the relationship NDPP becomes sour with its alliance BJP.

“This cheap politics is nothing but just a tool to convince the BJP Central leaders and to win over their sentiments of the BJP high command,” NPF

NPF said that during the last Lok Sabha election, the party took a stand to lend one-time issue-based support to the Congress candidate. However, NPF asserted that going together in the election would not change the stand of the party regionalism nor would it reflect as an alliance partner with them.
