NPF committed to welfare of Naga people: Neiphiu Rio

Nagaland chief minister and Naga People’s Front (NPF) president Dr. Neiphiu Rio has reiterated the party’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of the Naga people.
Speaking at a consultative meeting for NPF 11th Northern Angami assembly constituency at Chiephobozou, Rio emphasised that the NPF’s unique position rooted in Naga history and custodian of the community’s identity, culture, and tradition.
He stated that NPF was the only party that speaks truth about Naga history and has consistently produced leaders who genuinely serve the people.
He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to merge with NPF and lead the party, citing its commitment to the Naga cause as the reason for his loyalty. “If I were driven by self-interest, I would have joined another party,” he said, underscoring his faith in the NPF’s principles.
Rio urged party workers to strengthen the NPF and work for the betterment of the Naga people.
The chief minister expressed disappointment over the lack of implementation of various agreements signed between Naga underground groups and the Government of India. “Many agreements have been signed, but none have been implemented. Unless this changes, no solution will arrive,” he said.
Though Naga people were yet to be physically integrated, he said the NPF was working towards political integration amongst the Naga people across borders. “We must work together to ensure that our people reap the benefits of development and progress,” Rio added.
NPF secretary general Achumbemo Kikon, MLA, echoed Rio’s views, asserting that the NPF was the only party capable of effectively representing Naga rights.
He appreciated Rio’s return to the NPF, saying it reflected his genuine commitment to the Naga people rather than personal gain. Kikon noted that the merger of two regional parties has brought hope and healing to Naga society.
He highlighted that the NPF has guided the Naga people for six decades and was formed specifically to facilitate an honourable, acceptable, and inclusive solution to the Naga political issue.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by Vizotuonyü Lhoungu, NPF working president 11th Northern AC, welcome address was delivered by Kechalhoubei Talie, president 11th Northern AC and vote of thanks was offered by Kehoulie Khubve, general secretary 11th Northern AC.
