DIMAPUR, AUG 17 (NPN): Naga People’s Front (NPF) has demanded immediate and expedited justice in the alleged killings of six Nagas in Manipur, warning that failure to take exemplary action against those responsible could erode public faith in the government and the administration of law and justice.
The demand was made after an NPF delegation led by vice president and in-charge of the Manipur State Unit Vipopal Kintso visited Makhan village on August 10 and met displaced Naga families sheltered there. The delegation also included vice presidents Kekongchim Yimkhiung and Angyie Konyak.
According to the NPF, more than 200 people are sheltered at the village, including the wives and children of the six Nagas who were allegedly killed by Kukis.
The party said more than three months had passed since the incident and alleged that despite the names of persons allegedly involved in the abduction having been submitted to law-enforcement agencies, no tangible action had been taken to bring the perpetrators to justice.
NPF expressed anguish over the accounts of the victims and their plight, and condemned the alleged killings and mutilation of the bodies.
The party also appealed to the Manipur Government to extend relief and rehabilitation to all people affected by the ongoing unrest in the State in a judicious manner, without fear or favour.
It further appealed to the Government of India to show empathy towards the people of Manipur and intervene to restore peace and harmony in the State.
