Following the dismissal of their petition for disqualification of seven suspended rebel MLAs by NLA speaker Sharingain Longkumer, NPF has filed an appeal with the Gauhati High Court Kohima Bench and second hearing was scheduled on August 7.
NPF MLAs- Chotizuh Sazo and Imkong L Imchen- filed an appeal with the Gauhati High Court Kohima Bench, challenging theJuly 14 order of the NLA speaker Sharingain Longkumer of dismissing their disqualification petition.
Speaking to Nagaland Post, NPF’s petitioner and MLA, Imkong L Imchen said the GHC Kohima bench has admitted the appeal against the order of the Speaker of the house and held the first hearing on July 23 through video conferencing.
It may be mentioned that after more than a year of filing the disqualification petition against the seven suspended NPF MLAs for defying the party decision during the last parliamentary election, the Speaker had dismissed the on July 14 on the ground that the rebel MLAs were not liable to be disqualified under Para 2 (1) (a) of the 10th schedule.
After issuing his order, the NLA speaker said the entire proceeding was held in a fair manner where equal opportunity was given to both the parties.
Leader of the Opposition T.R. Zeliang however described the Speaker’s ruling as arbitrary and that justice was not done to the petitioners. Zeliang had also said the NPF would take up the issue with the court.
