DIMAPUR: Naga People’s Front (NPF) Elders Council celebrated the 36th United Nations International Day of Older Persons at the Kohima Division conference hall on October 1.
Speaking as the main speaker, H. Chuba Chang, working president of NPF, said that a society which does not respect its elders has no future. He maintained that age should not matter as long as the mind remains fresh, and stressed the need to recognise the contributions of elders, describing them as the builders of present society. He urged older persons not to be discouraged but to continue their efforts in building a better society, noting that wisdom, not strength, brings lasting progress.
Delivering his address, Kruzakie, senior vice president and Central Office Bearer (CoB) in charge, said the day was meant to honour the contributions of elders. He appreciated chief minister and NPF president Dr. Neiphiu Rio for recognising the elders, noting that they preserve the rich heritage and culture of the Nagas.
He added that the modern generation should appreciate the contributions of the older generation, stressing that the way society treats its elders reflects its values.
Akho Leyri, vice president (Admin), also spoke on the occasion, highlighting the importance of elders’ contributions towards the growth of the party and calling upon members to strengthen the Council.
