NPF Central Office Bearers (COB) consultative meeting held at its Central Office Kohima on February 12, resolved that the case pertaining to de-registration of NDPP should be closed forthwith.
The meeting noted that NPF had been “unnecessarily drag in time and again” without the NPF head office being duly briefed by the person concerned. The COB opined that the matter, which was pending in the court, ought to be settled outside the court. COB noted that prolonging the matter in the court infused more negativity thereby derailing stronger ties with other likeminded political parties.
Opposes PR in Manipur: COB expressing concern over the prolonged unrest coupled with political turmoil in the State of Manipur, reaffirmed its commitment to the NDA alliance in the State of Manipur. However, the COB expressed the view that proper consultation in terms of policies was lacking within the coalition partners, which needed to be examined and considered in order to uphold the coalition spirit.
Further, the party expressed opposition to imposition of ‘President’s Rule’ in Manipur and urged for installation of a democratically elected government without delay.
The party also demanded that all its five MLAs should be accommodated in the new BJP-led NDA dispensation in Manipur as NPF was a trusted partner of the coalition since 2017.
NPF reiterated its earlier decision in opposing the Central Government proposal for ‘One Nation-One Election’.
Naga issue: The COB meeting urged both the Government of India and the “Naga national workers” to expedite the “Indo-Naga” peace process and bring inclusive, acceptable and honourable solution. It also appealed to all the “National workers” to unite and work together.
NPF also strongly opposed the Centre’s decision to construct border fencing along the “imaginary” India-Myanmar border. It urged the Centre to re-consider sealing of the border and scraping of Free Movement Regime (FMR), which has caused series of problems disrupting the traditional ties of people living on both sites of the border since time immemorial.
Meanwhile, the COB meeting unanimously resolved to strengthen the party at all level.
The meeting resolved to appeal to all the former members of NPF who have either become inactive or disassociate themselves from the party to re consider their decisions and re-join the party in the larger cause of the Naga people.
COB also appreciated and acknowledged the stand and performance of two NPF MLAs—Kuzholuzo Azo Nienu, leader of the NPF legislature party and Achumbemo Kikon, MLA & secretary general in the House of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly, for boldly raising the important issues so far in the interest of the Party in particular and Nagas in general.
The party through its press bureau said COB consultative meeting was convened under the leadership of the senior vice president, Blaise Iheilung, and recorded by the press secretary Mathew Rongmei.
Delivering welcome address, NPF president Apong Pongener, expressed gratitude to all the office bearers for their ongoing dedication to the party. He emphasised the importance of unity and commitment in advancing the party’s vision.
Achumbemo Kikon, MLA, emphasised the need to streamline party operations and strengthen activities at the grassroots level. He also asserted that all members must remain disciplined and work in accordance with the party constitution.
NPF working president Pusazo Luruo and general secretary Gonei-u Sirie also addressed the meeting. The meeting concluded with a benediction offered by H. Changlemba Chang, general secretary.
A comprehensive discussion followed on several key political issues, including strategies to strengthen the party base and improve communication within the NPF. Various proposals were debated, leading to a consensus on adopting a proactive approach to address both internal and external challenges.
The meeting ended with the formation of a resolution committee, tasked with drafting resolutions on critical matters discussed. The resolution committee included Khongjah Konyak as convenor, along with Lanukaba, Toniho Shegi, Diethoselhou Sachü, and Ciefüzü Cürhah as members.
Earlier, the meeting began with an invocation prayer led by vice president (administration), Akho Leyri while vote of thanks was proposed by Gonei-u Sirie.
