Naga People Front (NPF) on Saturday criticized the PDA government for appointing ex-NDPP candidate of 22-Arkalong A/C, Mayang Lima as the new Vigilance Commissioner.
Reminding the PDA government that the post of Vigilance Commissioner was not political but a statutory post, NPF spokesperson Achumbemo Kikon said it was very unbecoming of the government to appoint a candidate who had recently lost the assembly elections.
The party therefore demanded that the appointment be immediately revoked.
Citing central guidelines, Achumbemo said for such appointments the leader of the opposition should be consulted, but it was not done so in this case.
He said the government should show some respect to the opposition party which has 26 legislators.
Achumbemo also wildly speculated about whether Mayang Lima, who had once been Registrar of the Gauhati High Court Kohima Bench, was in any way involved in the high court building scam which the Gauhati High Court had asked CBI to enquire into. Basing his argument on this premise , Achumbemo opined that the government should have first ascertained the facts before making the appointment.
He also questioned the wisdom of the Governor for clearing the file and said it was an insult to Naga intellectuals.
On Citizenship Amendment Bill, Achumbemo said the party will oppose the bill as NPF was formed to protect the identity and rights of the Naga people.
He added that if the bill is passed, Central government will not hesitate to push the immigrants in North East, particularly Nagaland being a vulnerable State.
Achumbemo also questioned the silence of the Governor and chief minister despite the protest carried out by the NSF against the bill. He however wondered whether the state government was aware of the issue.
