NPF reacts to NPCC’s statement

Reacting to the news item ‘NPCC reacts to Khulu’, the NPF has said since March 2003, the party had being reiterating that factional clashes and killings were political in nature, which required political solution.
NPF associate press secretary Shilumar Ao in a press release said the party had been consistently playing the role of a mediator, bringing together conflicting parties to a common platform and that the government had promptly reacted to the situation by constituting the political affairs committee (PAC).
NPF said PAC was currently engaged in meeting and interacting with the various underground leaders, mass based civil societies NGO’s in various ways. On Congress charges that there was complete breakdown of law and order in the State, the NPF said some on and off incidents in the State including killing of civilians should not be construed as total breakdown of law and order. On the other hand, the party alleged that in Congress ruled states like Assam and Manipur, bomb blasts, daylight murder and ethnic cleansing were an every day experience.
Even in the Congress-ruled state of Jammu and Kashmir, the then chief minister G Nabi Azad resigned after failing totally to control the situation. Citing these examples, NPF questioned the manner in which NPCC was blaming the DAN government, when the government had already issued clear-cut information to the general public to access and inform the competent authority for timely action.
While thanking NPCC for admitting that the general public was the best judge, NPF also reminded that it was during the Congress regime that factional clashes, extortions and abductions reached the level of intolerance in the state.
“The Naga public minutely judged the governances of the Congress party for more than two decades and made them history by mandating NPF led DAN govt. for two consecutive terms,” NPF said.
On the ceasefire in force between Government of India and various underground factions, the party asked “But does it guarantee that Nagaland should top the list in the Indian Union for zero law and order situation?” NPF said it was the firm stand of both the party and the government that the underground factions should strictly adhere to the ceasefire ground rules and that undergrounds cadres remain in their designated camps. “To uphold this stand, combine forces of Nagaland police, IRB, Army, Assam Rifles, local bodies have been carrying out eviction drive all over the state especially Kohima and Dimapur,” the party added. NPF said the attempt of NPCC to pass on the buck to the DAN government showed their immaturity and lack of understanding of the Naga political problem and law and order situation in the state.
