DIMAPUR, JUN 22 (NPN): Naga People’s Front (NPF) has refuted allegations made by Working Committee (WC), NNPGs on the recent Memorandum of Understanding on oil exploration and the party’s role in Naga political process, while calling for unity in pursuit of an honourable, acceptable and inclusive solution.
In a statement, NPF said the Indo-Naga issue did not belong to any individual, group or political party, but was a historic issue built on the sacrifices and aspirations of generations of Nagas. It said the present stage of the peace process required wisdom, maturity and unity rather than blame and criticism. NPF said criticism against it had come at a time when Nagas needed to focus on larger challenges and stressed that public arguments highlighting differences served no purpose when collective effort and understanding were most needed.
Refuting the allegation that it prevented members of Nagaland Gaon Bura Federation from meeting the Prime Minister in 2017, NPF termed the claim false. The party maintained that GBs had specific responsibilities relating to village governance and customary administration and should focus on those duties.
NPF also dismissed as baseless the allegation that it was responsible for the removal of former interlocutor R.N. Ravi, stating that the appointment, continuation or transfer of Government of India representatives rested solely with the Centre. The party said the call for political-level engagement was the collective voice of Naga society and not the stand of any individual or organisation.
